The Complete Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi. Written in the graphic/comic book style and with poignancy and humor, Satrapi’s coming-of-age memoir tells of growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution, a time of political revolution and repression. This book is also the 2010 One Book, One Philadelphia selection. Events held in celebration of the book will take place in Philadelphia from late January to early March. For information about these events, visit www.library.phila.gov/libserv/obop.htm.
On Wednesday, March 31, Sociology Instructor Dr. Augustine Isamah will lead a discussion of
Race Manners for the 21st Century: Navigating the Minefield Between Black and White Americans in an Age of Fear by Bruce A. Jacobs. The discussion is held in preparation of Jacob’s public keynote address on Tuesday, April 6 at 12:30 p.m. in the Science Center Theater at the College’s Central Campus in Blue Bell. Originally published in 1999 and updated and reissued in 2007, Race Manners explores the preconceptions people hold that prevent a genuine dialog about race in America.
